About us

bespoke kitchen cottage

As a colonial city by the sea, “Old” Newcastle was influenced by art, traders, and manufacturers worldwide. This is reflected in most ornate stonework and iron castings around Ouseburn, downtown, and Jesmond’s various Victorian and Georgian buildings.

About Kitchen Inspiration, bespoke’ means made to order, tailored to your needs and made to fit; ‘handmade’ means made to last, and handmade with quality materials. Together, they make for custom kitchen designs that look amazing – and are made to last a lifetime. Why bespoke, handmade kitchens? – Bespoke kitchens are increasing in popularity.

One reason is that, as with handmade garments, there has been a pushback against the spread of cheap, disposable products whose low price mainly reflects their poor quality. A bespoke kitchen, as with good-quality clothes, should last a lifetime. Another reason for their popularity is that we’re all different: we have kitchens that are different sizes, and their shape and layout vary. We have family groups of different sizes with different kitchen-use habits.

We all want our kitchens to have a ‘wow factor’ – and reflect our personality. Handmade, bespoke designs give you a kitchen that will do all these things – and work perfectly for you. It’s yours. It’s handmade. It’ll last. It’s you.

Kitchens are not just where we cook today but also where we socialize and serve ourselves an array of food and drink.

Defining Bespoke Kitchens

These kitchens are crafted to suit the available space and the homeowner. In contrast, flat-pack or pre-made kitchens are built to a standard size, typically in a few specific layouts, using components primarily made in factory conditions. When clients are offered different door and worktop finishes, it’s important to remember that while the mass-produced kitchen may have a veneer rather than a solid wood door, the kitchen is still made to measure, with the same range of sizes and styles being planned for the kitchen as for the bespoke option.

Bespoke kitchens can be ‘designed’ and ‘handmade’ all in one go in the sense that design plans can change during the making process and, more broadly, a bespoke kitchen is not just about choosing additional bespoke details, such as mouldings, hood covers, giant pantries, and island features, but also about specifying caressing components that in other kitchens tend to be mass manufactured according to general pre-set production orders.

Materials and Finishes in Bespoke Kitchens

Material choices for bespoke kitchens are wide-ranging, each having distinctly different properties. For visual appeal, functionality, and overall quality, the right choice of material will depend on the style of your kitchen, the look you wish to achieve, and our designer’s recommendations. The manufacture of kitchen carcasses in modern factory production largely dictates using a moisture-resistant composite board, such as a melamine-faced chipboard or MDF. These substrates become impervious when a joint is glued, providing a strong, stable, and moisture-resistant carcass. Load-bearing corners (carcass joints) are usually dowelled and glued for maximum strength, while the aesthetic of the joint – referred to in the kitchen trade as’ the edge’ – is generally colour-matched to the surface layer of the board.
